Our Services
Pain Management
-
Acute Pain - New Injury, Post-Op Pain: We specialize in managing acute pain known as a new injury or post-operative pain.
-
Chronic Pain - Pain Lasting Longer than 6 Months: We provide comprehensive care for individuals dealing with chronic pain that persists for more than six months, enhancing their quality of life.
-
Conservative Pain Management: Pain is a moving target and can be complex. It requires a comprehensive approach involving a team of healthcare professionals. At OC Pain and Supportive Care, we regularly work with Allied Health Professionals to incorporate nutritional, physical, occupational, chiropractic, massage, and acupuncture therapy into the treatment plan before we recommend more invasive treatments or starting opioid therapy.

-
Nerve Pain- We specialize in finding the cause of the nerve pain and managing the pain with different modalities.
-
Cancer Pain - Collaborative Care with Oncologists: Working in conjunction with your oncologist, we offer integrated pain management solutions tailored to the specific needs of cancer patients.
-
Interventional Pain Management: We Identify pain that can be treated with interventional procedures such as Epidural Steroid Injections, Radiofrequency Ablations, Nerve Blocks and Joint Injections. Patients that are candidates for these procedures will be referred to our Interventional Pain Management Specialists to perform the procedures.
-
When your pain requires surgical intervention: Surgery may be an option if patients have exhausted all conservative treatments for pain. Patients will be referred to highly skilled surgeons specializing in their area of pain, such as spine or joint specialists.
-
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT): Patients suffering from chronic pain can sometimes concurrently experience anxiety and/or depression. This can sometimes amplify the physical pain which can lead to patients taking more pain medications to treat the pain. While we do not directly provide CBT in our office, we highly recommend working with a psychiatrist and psychologist that specializes in chronic pain management.

Palliative/Supportive Care
Our Palliative/Supportive Care service at OC Pain and Supportive Care is centered around supporting patients who have a serious or life-threatening illness. Our service aims to provide you with comprehensive support during challenging times, addressing not only your physical needs but also your emotional, spiritual and psychological well-being. We are committed to enhancing your overall quality of life and ensuring that you receive care that is aligned with your values and aspirations. Your comfort and satisfaction are at the forefront of our approach.
When we are no longer able to provide Palliative/Supportive Care on an outpatient basis, we can assist with transitioning to Home Health Palliative Care or Hospice Services. The patient may receive care in their home or nursing facility to continue receiving advanced symptom management and support.
Advanced Symptom Management
Patients with cancer, serious or life-threatening illnesses, face a high symptom burden that interferes with functional status, disrupts quality of life, and may contribute to mortality. Advanced symptom management can help improve the patient’s quality of life, greater treatment compliance, and may even offer survival advantages. Examples of advanced symptoms that can be treated are: Anemia, Constipation, Depression, Diarrhea, Respiratory Distress, Fatigue, Fever, Infection, Neutropenia, Mucositis and Stomatitis, Nausea or vomiting, Neuropathy and Pain. Treating symptoms and delivering guideline-based symptom management is a critical component of high-quality care.
Goals Clarification
Goals of care are often discussed as an important component of end-of-life discussions. Examples of goals are: to be cured, to live longer, improve or maintain function or quality of life or independence, to be comfortable, achieve life goals, and provide support for the family or caregiver. These goals can be used to articulate goal-oriented frameworks to guide decision making toward the end of life and thereby harmonize patients' treatment choices with their values and medical conditions.
Advanced Care Planning
At OC Pain and Supportive Care, we understand the importance of planning for your healthcare preferences, especially during challenging times. Our Advanced Care Planning service involves discussing and preparing for future decisions about your medical care if you become seriously ill or unable to communicate your wishes. It goes beyond the basics to ensure that you have a clear and comprehensive strategy in place for your medical care. We can help you gather information to review your Advance Directives for Health Care, choose a Health Care Proxy, fill out a POLST form and getting your affairs in order.

Advanced Directives
It is a legal document that instructs your family and medical team on how you want to be treated if you cannot make your own decisions during an emergency treatment.
Durable Power of Attorney for Health Care
It is a legal document that states the name of your health care proxy, the person who can make health care decisions for you if you are unable to communicate that to your medical team.
POLST (Physician Order for Life-Sustaining Treatment)
POLST forms provide guidance about your medical care that your medical team can act immediately in an emergency. It is a medical order form that is intended for people who have already been diagnosed with a serious illness.
A POLST stays with you. If you are in a hospital or nursing home, this document is posted near your bed. If you are living at home or in a hospice care facility, the document is prominently displayed where emergency personnel or other medical team members can easily find it.
POLST forms vary by state, but essentially a POLST enables your doctor to include details about what treatments not to use, under what conditions certain treatments can be used, how long treatments may be used and when treatments should be withdrawn. Issues covered in a POLST may include:

-
Resuscitation
-
Mechanical ventilation
-
Tube feeding
-
Use of antibiotics
-
Requests not to transfer to an emergency room
-
Requests not to be admitted to the hospital
-
Pain management

A POLST also indicates what advance directives you have created and who serves as your health care agent. Like advance directives, POLSTs can be canceled or updated.
